Hair Loss Study - September 12th, 2009

In my quest to find some solid information about hair loss and it’s treatment, I came across a website that asserted some pretty interesting claims. They provided some test results to back up these claims. The following information that I’ll present goes against some of the things I included in my previous posts, so just keep that in mind when you read on.

The site asserted that male pattern hair loss in men is not really a result of stress and is not really caused by wearing a hat every day or even very often. They claim that baldness is not a result of having worn your hair in a certain way or the things that you have used to style it. And a very surprising claim that they make is that it is not a result of a nutrient deficiency, and that it isn’t because of a lot of sweating, or sebum on your scalp. Male pattern baldness and hair loss is called Androgenic Alopecia, and it is the result of Hormones and genetics. Their explanation is that it is because of one reason only, which is that you’re losing hair because your genetics are programmed to. Your hair follicles have all been pre-programmed to become extra-sensitive to changing hormones and hormonal activity taking place in your scalp. The explanation is that certain hairs and hair follicles become so sensitive to natural hormones that your body begins to slowly reject them.

This is a very radical study and the results are still in question, but it was definitely something new to look in to.
